Perfect Example of Brilliant Marketing: Recently I was fortunate enough to witness a brilliant piece of marketing..... For the sake of the excercise we will refer to the case study simply as XYZ and the Customer as simply, our client.
Example: If holding a large event such as a music festival or rock concert, consider selling the glass to the patron. Meaning the patron cannot buy a drink without the purchase of a glass!
You might think, steady on, that's a bit raw?
Maybe, but read on, you may be impressed and heaven forbid, you may even learn something.........
So, the 'flow' goes as follows: the patron returns to the bar for a refill and each time only buys the contents, they hand over their glass and recieve a fresh, clean glass each time - their used glasses are washed and dried in preparation for new patrons.
If you follow this suggestion, two things occur (1) you have automatically created a revenue stream that wasn't there previously, making at least 100% margin on investment and (2) there's no clean-up fee as the patron takes the item with them..!!
The latter is an excellent point - Our client (who hosted the concert) poses a question and explained "if we were to use those disposable flimsy cups that everyone else uses, once they become discarded, the cost of the human labour component to collect them equates to how much?"
Answer - One dollar $1.00 per plastic disposable cup!
Hard to believe isn't it?
Now multiply x 20,000 patrons and then calculate an approximate allowing for multiple drinks - you can see the figures increasing... There's also an environmental cost and soon there will be a carbon tax issue
Looks cheaper on the outside but you get the point, right?
Outcome: You have a win-win situation, the customer is happy as they have a logo imprinted piece of take home memorabilia from the event and you as the festival owner have created a revenue stream that previously wasn't there and in the process your clean-up bill has been significantly reduced - sound advice.
The Event Organiser of this case study was a very well organised, experienced individual, who surprised me with his level of detail. There is a lesson here for all event managers looking to increase revenues and satisfy the masses with innovative, well priced, quality products.
